About Follow the Foam and Myself
When I teach others to surf I explain to them that when a wave breaks, it leaves a frothy trail behind it. Go just beyond the beginning of that trail and you will be in the right spot to start catching waves. Follow the Foam.
My name is Chris Pisano. 21 years ago I drowned on my first attempt at surfing in Daytona Beach, FL. I was hooked. Now in my forties, surfing has taught me who I am, how to respect the energy of the unknown, and how to treat others. I have been treated with kindness and positive vibes as I have surfed globally.
I try not to look on the comments section in social media posts, but even the strongest of us fail at that sometimes. Surfing, from the words and comments online, has become intimidating and negative to those outside of the community.
Surfing in Costa Rica this year with my longtime and best surf buddy, the Pura Vida vibes were given to us at every break by a people that do not have all the modern luxuries of the US. It was then that I knew- we have to start somewhere to bring the newest generation (and some lost veterans) into a world where they feel the positive energy, find the peace that the Ocean brings, and get to stand-up on any size or quality of board and ride the wave of incredible excitement into the shore with exhaustion and satisfaction.
So in April of 2024 (this year), I quit my steady job as a Healthcare Executive and took the leap into my own custom apparel and design business (ftfdesignco.com) and my long-time surf brand (Follow the Foam<----obviously).
Like most things (and most surf forecasts), I have no clue where this will lead, but I know we must start paddling.
Come with me, if not just to spread the Surfing Warrior mentality at your local break and be that leader everyone comes to to say hello to and cheer with.
Namaste!
Chris
